It has been suggested that the forbidding architecture of Gormenghast was influenced by the walled city of Beijing and the Forbidden City within. Others claim, perhaps less plausibly, that Arundel castle might have provided some inspiration. The three books are unique, works of fine literature. I like them for the names of the characters alone, like Irma Prunesquallor and Flay. Peaking in high school refers to when a student was performing at their best at school. They were the famous students who reached their peak in high school.
