Posted 04 April - PM I am just posting this bc there is clearly a trending pattern going on now with some new Google Redirect issue that is also apparently infecting Firefox and Chrome users too. TrendMicro had the most current patch version and did not detect this nor prevent it from affecting me. I have discovered over a dozen different approaches to this problem and suspect a RootKit may be involved, which makes it even more difficult to remove.
StopZilla detected a trojan, but was unable to remove it. A lot of good that did me, plus the scan took 12 hours to run. I doubt that will do any good though. I am crossing my fingers that MBAM will remove this, but if not, will try several other methods I have seen on this board.
Most of those users were running Win7, but my Win7 machine has not been impacted. I attempted a system restore back to my previous "working" condition, but I was still infected. I should have tried this first, but it didnt work anyway. I have now moved back to today's point in time, have re-installed MBAM, and performing another full system scan. I'll report back in tmrw on how this went, but I strongly suspect I will need to try the TDSSKiller approach, which has reportedly worked for others.
